Robert Ruark Essay Contest-Win $1,000!
Each Spring the Robert Ruark Society of Chapel Hill and the Creative Writing Department of the University of North Carolina English Department sponsor an essay contest, open to all University of North Carolina undergraduates. 2012 will mark the seventh year of the writing award.

All submitted essay entries are required to be about the great outdoors as Robert Ruark wrote in his famous book
"The Old Man and the Boy."

The winning essay writer will receive a $1,000 prize!  Robert Ruark originally envisioned the writers award when he visited The University of North Carolina in the 1950's. The Society is continuing his vision by sponsoring the Award.

The Robert Ruark Society plans to publish the winning essays online if they can be privided in digital or pdf format. Also, essay application forms will be posted at a later date. Individuals who are selected as winners are urged to submit an electronic copy of their essay, along with a bio document to the society for online publication.
