Robert Ruark was posthuously inducted into the N. C. Hall of Fame in Journalism on April 19, 2009. The ceremony was held in the Chancellor's Ballroom of the Carolina Inn, in Chapel Hill. His induction was part of the N. C. Halls of Fame Induction Ceremonies where William I. Morton was inducted into the N. C.Hall of Fame in Advertising and Trip Park received the Next Generation Leadership Award.
The N. C. Halls of Fame, based in the School of Journalism and Mass Communicatons at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, recognizes individuals who have made outstanding career-long conributions to their fields. Honorees must be native North Carolinians, or must have become distinctly identified with the state.
